Q: Is eating fruit a bad idea while trying to lose weight?

ANSWER:

Many people often wonder whether eating fruit is a no-no when on a fat loss diet. You know that fruit is filled with sugars, but it’s natural fruit sugars, not the sugar from the table, so perhaps this is okay?

You also know with all the people starting up on low carb diets that fruit definitely would not be included on those plans, so perhaps this means it really should be avoided.

What’s the solution?

The important thing to remember with this issue is the fact that fruit will contain a lot of vital nutrients that are essential for the body. It’s loaded with vitamins, fiber, as well as antioxidants, that are going to help you stay feeling well.

That said, it’s also higher in calories than vegetables, so while you can’t eat fruit freely to your heart’s content while on a diet plan like you can with vegetables, it is still lower than many other foods.
Fruit will help to calm your appetite and will help to encourage regular bowel movements due to the fiber it contains, so it’s not something that should ever be completely cut out.

Instead, moderate how much you eat. The average piece of fruit or cup of berries will contain about 60-100 calories, so if you eat 2-3 servings per day, there’s no reason this can’t be part of a healthy diet.
Fruit will satisfy your craving for something sweet and will make finding healthy snacks a breeze.

So don’t fear fruit. Just be smart about how much fruit you consume and make sure to integrate it into your total calorie intake for the day and you’ll have no problem getting your fill of your favorite varieties while still seeing the weight loss you desire.
